Last year, you may remember I wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/paint-garden-furniture\/\">how to paint garden furniture using pastel colours<\/a> and this week I thought I\u2019d get the creative juices flowing again.<\/p>\n<p>When approached by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintageapplecrates.com\/\">Vintage Apple Crates<\/a> to review their garden tools apple crate, I jumped at the chance, I knew I could take some of the ideas seen on Pintrest and add my own style.<\/p>\n<p><a data-pin-do=\"embedBoard\" data-pin-board-width=\"400\" data-pin-scale-height=\"240\" data-pin-scale-width=\"80\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.co.uk\/RenovateMecouk\/apple-crate-ideas\/\"><\/a><br \/>\n<script async defer src=\"\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/js\/pinit.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p data-imagelightbox=\"g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1236\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/crate-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/crate-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/crate.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The sturdy, storage crate arrived and although I could have piled my garden tools inside immediately, I decided to add wheels and a colourful kneeling pad.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, I removed any nails which would obstruct the wheels being fixed into the corners of the box.<\/p>\n<p data-imagelightbox=\"g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1229\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-crate-base-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-crate-base-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Apple-crate-base.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I then drilled four holes for each of the castor wheels.<\/p>\n<p data-imagelightbox=\"g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1233\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wheels-300x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wheels-300x400.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wheels.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The lid was created by cutting a piece of plywood 40cm x 50cm.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1232\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/measure-apple-crate-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/measure-apple-crate-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/measure-apple-crate.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In order to secure the lid, I made 4 battens approximately 12 cm long and nailed them in position 1 cm from the perimeter of the lid.<\/p>\n<p data-imagelightbox=\"g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1231\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lid-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lid-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lid.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using a sharp knife, I then cut the foam to fit on top of the ply wood and fixed in position using adhesive. I&#8217;d suggest using a firm foam if planning to use as a kneeling pad\/seat in the garden.<\/p>\n<p data-imagelightbox=\"g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1234\" src=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/foam-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/foam-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/renovateme.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/foam.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I placed the foam covered lid on the waterproof material and cut the material to the necessary size and fixed in position using a staple gun. The material was purchased from Dunelm for \u00a33.85.<\/p>\n<p>What a great addition to the garden! A bright, vintage garden tool box that can also be used as a seat and kneeling pad.
